PSHS Tiger football team 2014

PRINCETON — The Tigers will be looking to give the Beavers their first loss of the season when they meet up this Friday.

The Princeton Senior High Tigers (1-0) are looking to go 2-0 when the weekend is over after they take on Bluefield High School (1-0). Both teams put up quite a few points in their opener, Bluefield put up 76 versus Princeton’s 55. If the high scoring is carried over into week two of high school football, the people can expect a high-octane game.

Last week, the Tigers opened up with a statement win on the road and will also be traveling on the road for a second week in a row against Bluefield. When asked about last week's game Coach Peek had this to say about it.

"We had trouble with their size early, but they couldn't match our speed," Peek said. "I think our kids played hard."

Princeton totaled 400 rushing yards last week and will be looking to improve on the triple-option offense that they run. Princeton only attempted two pass attempts last week, but Coach Peek knows that the number will have to rise a bit more against Bluefield as they likely won't be able to run the ball the whole game as they did against Shady Spring.

Going into this week against the Beavers Coach Peek has a few things he wants to improve on offense and defense for the next game.

"We had a few missed assignments on defense," Peek said. "On offense we missed some protections. We only attempted one or two passes, but our protection broke down and we had to scramble."

This week marks the second straight away game for the Tigers, but Peek expects them to be much more settled this week. Each week the coaches have liked the progress they have seen from the team.

Bluefield provides a much different matchup than Shady Springs. The team put up over 70 points last weekend, and that included nine rushing touchdowns. They had four player's rush for over 100 yards. Bluefield has a lot of speed as well maybe even or slightly more than Princeton.

Princeton wants to contain Bluefield's speed this week. They know that Bluefield is versatile Peek stated that he wants his team to go out and just play solid football. Again this week Princeton will look to feed off of the momentum of quarterback Jay Palmer and running back Jordan Jones

Coach Peek also wants to start off on offense first to gain confidence. He also wants his team to sustain long drives because that will keep Bluefield's offense on the sideline even longer. Princeton will want to keep an eye out on running back Corey Coppola he led the Beavers with four scores last week

Overall expect and exciting game Friday night at Mitchell Stadium both teams offer potent rushing attacks and it will be exciting to see which team will be able to slow each other down the most.
