PRINCETON — Senior Logan McKinney prefers to lead through action than words.
McKinney is a senior football and basketball player for the Princeton Tigers. He is currently in season with the basketball team as they have just concluded the regular season with a 6-13 record.
“I think we are better than what our record shows,” said McKinney. “But we are growing every day and were are looking to make a run in the sectionals soon.”
More times than not being a senior on any team usually means that leadership follows. McKinney prefers to provide his leadership through his actions rather than doing them vocally. He uses his intensity as a measure of leadership to help his teammates to lead by example.
“I’m not really a vocal leader I try to make up for it with my hustle and hard playing during the game,” said McKinney. “I’d like to think I’ve set a good example for the team through practices and games.”
Before the season, McKinney had goals set out that he wanted to win the section, and he wanted his team to have a winning record. The Tigers fell short of the winning record, but they can still win the section as they take on Beckley Friday night.
McKinney also plays football for Princeton as he lined up at Wide Receiver and Defensive End. He takes certain things from each other and carry them over in both sports. From football, McKinney takes the leadership and heart for the game and carries that over into basketball. In basketball, he carries over the competitiveness and the willingness to play with your all into football. He loves the brotherhood and emotions involved in each sport though.
At all cost, McKinney wanted to make his team better, and he uses that for motivation. He also wants to make his grandmother proud and influence his younger sister who is an athlete who is also a reason for his motivation.
Kevin Love is McKinney’s favorite athlete and the reason is because he feels he is a great influence, player, and he is fundamentally sound. The Pittsburgh Steelers happens to be McKinney’s favorite NFL team as his family are all Steelers fans. When not around sports McKinney likes to fish and hang out with his friends.
In the fall, McKinney wants to further his education at Bluefield State College to study engineering.
