I see NFL teams trying to recover from self-imposed wounds via the draft. By self-imposed, I mean their decisions regarding talent either through frugality or impatience, Therefore, we have the draft.
As for the draft itself, I couldn’t watch the entire first round but I saw the first 10 picks. The picks seemed to be solid in terms of team needs. There were no puzzling picks,
The only quarterback taken in the first round was Kenny Pickett of Pitt by the Pittsburgh Steelers. People are questioning the pick because of his age (24) and his hand size. I think he’ll be the Steelers starting quarterback by mid-season.
Switching topics, I find it interesting that baseball can suspend Trevor Bauer for two years despite the police dropping charges and football can let Deshaun Watson skate to this point. I think Bauer has a court case if he wants to press it.
There are compelling stories within each of the NBA playoff remaining teams. Phoenix has Chris Paul trying to win the title which has painfully eluded him. Golden State is making a compelling story with a mixture of veterans of the championship era augmented with new talent. Memphis has a young and deep team led by Ja Morant. Dallas again is built around a star from Europe, this one Luka Doncic.
The Eastern Conference has the Bucks trying to repeat with Khris Middleton hurt. The Heat plays aggressive defense with good depth. The 76ers are still trying to figure things out. The Celtics have been the best team in the league since December.
I see the Suns and the Celtics in the NBA Finals.
