ATHENS — On Wednesday afternoon in the Mountain Lion Room of the Carter Center, the announcement of the newest members of the Concord Mountain Lions football team was made as a part of National Signing Day.

Concord Head Football Coach Paul Price said, “We got a couple of prospects for our offensive and defensive lines which we really needed out of our 12 commits and six transfers who have already enrolled in school.”

Local product Mason Walker, from the AA state runner-up Bluefield High School Beavers was the first name mentioned by Price.

“He’s used to winning and plays very hard. (BHS head coach) Freddie Simon runs a wonderful program, never taking a day off. Bluefield has contributed players to winning teams such as Jake Lilly and Keith Ferguson and we feel Mason is the same caliber of player. Guys who are local fit in better,” he commented.

Other offensive linemen signed were Drayton Bohnstadt of J.L. Mann High School in Greenville, S.C.; Myles Ham of Blue Ridge School in St.George, Va.; Troy Williams of Brookville High School in Lynchburg, Va; and transfer David Hensly from Virginia State.

“We wanted bigger, more physical people on our lines,” he said.

The defensive line saw Dajon Cardwell from Salem, Va. High School; Justin Hawkins from Sherman High School; and transfers Deanthony Muse from the University of Richmond and Noah Overstreet, an alumnus of Lord Botetourt (Va.) high school signed.

“These four give us a bolstering in the middle of our line,” he said.

Two linebackers: Vonte Pannell from Heritage High School in Lynchburg, Va. and Ty Maust from Liberty High School; tight ends Connor Wallace of Honaker (Va.) High School and Matt Mullins of Narrows, (Va.) high school; quarterbacks Seth Hillman of Wake Forest, N.C. High School and Lucas Stevens of Meadow Bridge High School; running back Christian Gilbert of Alta Vista (Va.) High School and defensive backs Nate Brookins of West Side High School (Ga.) and Greenbrier East alumnus Billy Honaker, a transfer from West Liberty, complete the initial contingent.

“Our staff has been hard at work with over 10,000 miles on the road,” Price said.
