It’s been strange for me since the COVID-19 caused all sports to be shut down. We’d ordinarily be watching the NBA Playoffs, baseball, golf, racing and other sports and I’d be doing stories about Concord spring football.

I’ve been watching the truncated versions of the ESPN afternoon line-up regarding the changed landscape of sports. I did get a big laugh out of Bill Plaschke, who took the late Dick Young’s cudgel as the biggest media spokesman for ownership, deny that very fact.

I will say that the new format has been more lively. It’s the same shows except for “Jalen & Jacoby” with hosts Jalen Rose and Dave Jacoby.

I only wish the rest of sports could be as lively. The coverage of events not happening, postponed or canceled gives me the feeling of watching an eternal wake.

I believe the virus is real and people need to handle themselves and others with care. I also believe that, if something doesn’t happen soon in terms of positive developments, there won’t be anything positive to survive.

I want to reemphasize that I believe that the local media is doing a good job under the circumstances they are covering.

I really don’t have much else to say. If you have ideas for sports coverage, please feel free to share them.
