The East River Volunteer Fire Department was able to quickly contain a blaze that threatened two residences on Mint Street Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighter Travis Weatherly reported that upon arrival, East River was greeted with 25-feet high flames within 20 feet of two residences. He added that firefighters were able to quickly contain the blaze after an engine arrived on scene.

Weatherly said that the cause of the fire remained under investigation by the West Virginia Division of Forestry and ERVFD Chief Nelson Short.

No one was injured in the fire.
