BLUEFIELD — West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals Judge and former Congressman Evan Jenkins will be the keynote speaker at the 18th Annual 9/11 Tribute & Dinner Sunday afternoon at the Bluefield Elks Lodge.
Dr. Randy Stevens, president of the lodge (269), said it started out with 30 people and now has grown to include more than 200.
“All area firemen, policemen, EMTs (emergency responders) and veterans are invited,” he said, adding their families and the public are welcome as well.
“We have a really nice appreciation and patriotic program,” he said.
A buffet dinner is also included at no charge.
“We partner with Bluefield Regional Medical Center,” he said, “and also have about 40 individual and business sponsors.”
The annual Excellence of Duty Award will also be presented to a first-responder and that award includes $1,000, which is donated by a corporate sponsor.
“We have a really good turnout for this,” Stevens said. “We are really excited out doing this. It’s one of our biggest events.”
Musical performances will be by the Turner Brothers and vocalist Rebecca Allen.
Sponsors can reserve a table or donate by calling 304-327-9822.
The event will be held on Sept. 8 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Elks grand ballroom.
