HILLSDALE,MI — The Concord University Mountain Lions faced their second opponent in five games which had made last year’s NCAA Division II football playoffs as they played and lost to the Hillsdale College Chargers 38-14 at Frank Waters Stadium. Saturday.

Concord (0-5) scored first as Kyle Akin completed a 33-yard pass to Tywan Pearce for a 7-0 CU(Luke Walls kick) lead at 10:12 in the first quarter,.

An interception by HC’s Drake Temple set up the first score for the host team. Five plays later, Luke Keller hit Nathan LaFree with a three-yard scoring pass to make it 7-7 (Bryce Sealock kick) with 6:59 left in the quarter.

Sealock made it 10-7 Hillsdale with 6:47 left in the half with a 32-yard field goal.

Keller hit A. Giampietro with a 60-yard touchdown pass as time expired in the half to make it 17-7 HC (Sealock kick).

After each side missed a field goal, David Graham rushed 80 yards in eight plays, scoring from one yard out on the eighth play to make it 24-7 HC (Sealock kick) with 1:33 left in the third quarter.

At the 7:44 mark of the fourth quarter, Keller and Graham connected for a 48-yard touchdown pass to make the score 31-7 Hillsdale (Sealock kick).

The final score by the Chargers saw Ty Cox rush 15 yards for a score to make it 38-7 HC (Sealock kick). The score was set up by an Akin fumble recovered by HC’s Gabe Nickels.

Concord ended the day’s scoring with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Matt Shearer to Brandon Plyler as time expired in the game, making it 38-14 (Walls kick).

For Plyler, he had 11 receptions for 150 yards in the contest. Plyler is the first CU receiver with double-digit catches and 150 yards in the same game since Jermeil Douse on November 5, 2016.

Pearce also went over the century mark receiving as he hauled in seven catches for a career-best 110 yards to go with the touchdown.

Akin went 16 for 30 for 202 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Joshua Maxwell ran five times for 21 yards.

Junior linebacker Dwain Porterfield collected a career-best 12 tackles while senior defensive back Ke’Shawn Hall added 11 stops on the afternoon.

For Hillsdale (3-2), Keller went 13 of 19 for 217 yards and three touchdowns. Graham had 24 rushes for 153 yards and a touchdown. Giampietro caught one pass for 60 yards and a touchdown. Zach Herzog had eight tackles, three solo.

Concord travels to West Liberty Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
