Red Devils burn Tigers, 55-15

GARDNER — The Oak Hill Red Devils stormed into Princeton last Friday night with pinned-back ears and jumped all over an injury-riddled Tiger football team, scorching the hosts, 55-15, in their home opener.

The Devils jumped out to a 35-7 halftime advantage and Princeton ended up giving them 563 total yards of  total offense (517 on the ground).

Oak Hill’s Jalen Jones rushed for 281 yards on 20 carries, reaching the end-zone three times to lead the winners.

“(Jalen) Jones is the real deal,” said Princeton coach Randy Peek. “He’s hard to contain.”

“Oak Hill has a very good football team and I look for them to go far into the playoffs.”

The previous two weeks have seen the Tigers make heroic comeback efforts, despite falling behind by large margins at intermission.

“The difference between this week and the two previous weeks, is that we got down and were able to fight back,” he said.  “We didn’t fight back against Oak Hill.”                       “We are still hurting on defense, and our kids are getting injured everytime we go out.” “Versus Oak Hill, we were substituting for substitutions and it’s hard to make progress that way.”

The Tigers held tough throughout, but in the end were just too banged up to make any sort of comeback attempt.

The Tigers travel to Charleston tonight to take on an unbeaten Capital team, as they enter Mountain State Athletic Conference (MSAC) play.

“Capital is young team with only a few seniors anchoring their defense and they have super quick team speed,” he said.

“We have made some adjustments on defense and we’re just licking our wounds right now, but we’re still competitive.”

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. tonight at Charleston’s UC - Laidley Field.
