Bluefield College Fine Arts Community School Schedule

PRINCETON — The following classes are available through Bluefield College’s Fine Arts Community School. There is a $25 non-refundable registration fee for all classes taken through the Bluefield College Fine Arts Community School. One registration fee per student regardless of the number of classes taken. One day workshops do not require a registration fee. Family discounts are available. • Private music instruction in piano, guitar, violin, voice, and harp is available through the Bluefield College Fine Arts Community School during the Spring Semester. Tuitions vary, and sessions last from five weeks to 10 weeks. For more information, or to sign up call 276-326-4246.

• There will be a Basic Art class at the Bluefield College Fine Arts Community School starting Tuesday, Jan. 29 and continuing for four weeks meeting every Tuesday, 6-7 p.m. The class is geared for the beginning artist and will cover basic sketching techniques that include: smudging, hatching, cross hatching, and stippling. Applications in still life and building design. Materials needed include: 18x24 sketch pad, number six drawing pencil, gummy eraser, ruler, and a small package of color pencils. • Beginning Figure Drawing class through the Bluefield College Fine Arts Community School will be held beginning Thursday, Jan. 31 and continuing every Thursday for four weeks. Proportions of the body and how to apply them, contour and line drawings of the figure, and face proportions will be taught using a live model. Materials needed include: 18x24 sketch pad, number six drawing pencil, gummy eraser, ruler, and a small package of color pencils. Teenagers to adult students are welcome. Tuition is $60. • Fun Fine Art Fridays will be held at the Bluefield College Fine Arts Community School for eight weeks starting Feb. 1. Class is for students ages 8-12 and will be held every Friday, 5-6 p.m. Students will enjoy a variety of arts such as theater, music, painting, and pottery. Tuition is $100. •  Preschool music time at Bluefield College through the Fine Arts Community School will be held starting Feb. 4 and will meet each Monday, 4-5 p.m. This class is perfect for an active, energetic, and creative preschool age child and will use singing, dancing, instruments and puppetry to tap into their imagination. Each week the class will learn how to share, participate in group activities, and interact with other children. The class is open to children, ages 3-5 who are potty trained. Tuition is $75. • Bluefield College Fine Arts Community School is holding an Acting Class starting Feb. 5, for four weeks. Classes will focus on solid acting techniques such as movement, voice, and characterization while having fun. Warm ups, improvisational games, group exercises, and discussion will be a part of the class; as well as reviewing basic stage direction and lightly introducing the student to toe direction process of “working” a scene or monologue. The class should make the acting student a more informed observer and performer. Tuition is $75. For more information, call 276-326-4246.

• A Circular Patchwork Quilting class will be held at Bluefield College through the Fine Arts Community School beginning on Feb. 19 and continuing every Tuesday, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The class will learn how to turn a square into a circle, back into a square and finally back into a circle. Bring your sewing machines, rotary cutters, pinking shears, pencil, threads, and fabric. This class is for students ages 12 and up. Tuition is $80. For more information, call 276-326-4246.
